Chapter 1

Claire I had always loved the scent of sandalwood and rain. Even when mother said I wasn't allowed to play more than an omega should for a day, whenever I took a glimpse outside and saw the members of our pack - playing under the rain with their brightest smiles - I couldn't help but feel comforted. Most especially when my eyes would land on him. Ajax Larwoods. The smell of rain and wood, the colors of the sky that turned into a mellow orange hue that always made ways in giving my heart a touch of comfort, drizzled by unspeakable flying insects as he spoke to me with his low, husky voice. From my birth to my current self, these crazy thoughts were brought upon by my affection toward one person―Ajax. This was especially not easy for the fact that I was an omega and Ajax was an alpha. He was the son of the current Alpha King of the Crescent Glacier Pack in the Northern Woods, the biggest territory in this place. Being the next king of one of the most strongest packs in the world, I've known for a long time that Ajax would surely find his very own mate, a strong female alpha like himself, to stand and rule the pack someday. Surely, a low omega like me could only ever wish to be noticed by a mighty and powerful figure such as Ajax. As the majority only treat us as nothing more than servants and slaves, I've long accepted my fate and only wished Ajax the best. From afar, I could see him and that was more than enough to make my little omega heart happy. Well, that was until things began to change when I turned eighteen. The day I transformed into my wolf form for the first time, I realized my affection toward the Alpha Prince no longer belonged to me solely. Much to my embarrassment, it happened during the academy's night class' last two kilometer run, where everyone was present. "Look, Claire transformed!" David, one of the strongest alphas in our academy, exclaimed, looking at me. Everybody―both in their human and wolf forms―turned their heads to look in my direction. I couldn't control myself and began to move around like a mad wolf. It was one of the disadvantages of being an omega, the inability to control one's own transformation, regardless whether there was a full moon or not. Unlike alphas and betas who could control their transformations once they reached a certain stage or gained enough power, omegas' will was limited, causing us to have our tails picked by others when they witnessed our weaknesses. Soon, a crowd began to surround me. Laughters erupted through my ears as they all mocked my appearance and strange behavior. I wanted to speak but no sound could even come out of my mouth. Unlike alphas, omegas were much smaller and weaker in looks. This was one of the main reasons why omegas were always deemed to be subjects to bullying. At this time, I wanted to speak but no sound could even come out of my lips. All I could use perfectly were my two senses, vision and hearing, much to my horror to have seen and heard the same noise of endless ridicule toward my own race. "Isn't she the one who always looks at Ajax like she wants to eat him?" Another wolf said with a mocking tone. I remember her name being Lilith. I felt so exposed. I wanted to run away and hide, but more and more werewolves surrounded me, pushing me back to the center. When I tried to roar at them, they only laughed louder. "Ajax likes her?" Another commented, stepping closer to me. If I remember it right, this person was one of the popular betas in Ajax's group. My heart began to beat fast. I didn't want Ajax to know about my feelings for him. Not like this, not in this situation... A shrilling voice came and said with an upset tone, "Oh please, stop making things up, Gary. Ajax will never look at this low being. Besides, he already has Selene." "You're right. Selene is the best Luna candidate for Ajax. This omega is really too brave, dreaming to be with Ajax! How shameless!" A beta from another class exclaimed. All I could do was stare at their faces and listen to their comments. I wanted to tell them I was not wishing for more, that I only liked Ajax and did not dare to ask for more from him or anyone else. But all of these remained stuck in my throat. For some reason, I could not explain however I wished to. My eyes scanned around the crowd and found Selene Alcarez, the most beautiful werewolf in the academy. She came from another pack whom Ajax was always being rumored to be paired to. From head to toe, she was described to be beautiful, a rare piece of gem that every guy wanted to look and stare at with love and admiration. I was, in all truths there were, the complete opposite of her. And by all means, as everyone dictated and believed, she was the one fated to stay beside Ajax. Or so I thought. Because on the day of the blue moon, a day when all werewolves on their right age and fated time were expected to feel in their blood the identity of their mates, Ajax who was supposed to declare his mate, did not utter a sound. "Ajax, son, you can tell us who your mate is," his mother, Luna Olive, seated beside Ajax's father, the Alpha King Thomas, asked. Ajax stood still in the center as everyone, including me and the rest of the omegas, watched him. We waited for him to introduce and say the name of his mate as part of the tradition. However, minutes passed and Ajax did not say anything, not even a word. Instead, his father, Alpha King Thomas, went on his stead and spoke, "The night is young. Perhaps, Ajax is still in search of his mate. Let's not be bothered by this, everyone. My son will soon announce who his mate is. For now, everyone should go and find their mates as part of the tradition. We will all meet at midnight to give our praises to the Moon Goddess." This announcement declared in an authoritative and powerful tone made everyone zip their mouths, only following the alpha king's orders. I, as one of the omegas―the servants―immediately went back to work. After all, there were visitors from other packs who had come from different locations to personally witness and listen to the next Alpha King and his mate, the next Luna. Announcing the mate of the next Alpha King of the North was indeed a big deal. Even Selene Alcarez and her family came, but much to their disappointment, Ajax didn't mention her name at all. "Stop dilly dallying and quickly go to your brother. You need to scout the area and make sure no other beings will step into our place tonight," my mother, an omega as well, said as we reached our small dwelling. This house was occupied by many omegas, from youngest to oldest, female and male. My brother who was also an omega was currently training as one of the wolves charged to scout the territory. From what I have learned, he was doing it to be part of the list - the Next Beta. Next Beta meant an opportunity for omega males to be betas, and to be part of the security group responsible to follow and protect the Alpha and his bloodline. In order to transform to a beta, an omega needed to undergo series of trainings and battles with real betas and alphas. If one could succeed without dying or being heavily injured, then they may have a chance to be bitten by an alpha to turn into a beta, giving more power when it came to strength and of course, responsibility. "I will, mother," I politely obeyed then thought for a minute before adding, "Can I watch the full moon after?" Mother had always known my feelings, whenever I was confused, angry, or just being stupid. Though, she rarely spoke of affectionate words and refused to be overly intimate with her actions too. She stared at me and only said simply, "Do whatever you want, but make sure to finish all your tasks first." As always, that made me smile as I nodded. "Understood!" I wasn't completely lying when I told her I wanted to watch the full moon. Part of what I originally intended was that, and the other... Well, I sort of wanted to see the Alpha Prince. I mean, it must've come out a shock to him when he couldn't see his mate's identity, right? I wanted to check on him and see if he was doing and feeling okay. Sighing as I imagined a saddened expression on the Alpha Prince's face, I headed out of our mini dwelling. I began to walk toward the location where my brother, Navi, currently was. As soon as I saw him, I quickly sprinted toward him. But before that happened, a huge black wolf suddenly stopped in front of me, blocking my way. My eyes widened as I realized who it was― "A-Ajax..." I couldn't help but whisper as I stared at those clear blue eyes illuminated by the full moon above. He was staring at me, full of concentration and something more to which I could not define. To my surprise, Ajax used his powers and gave me a message by only looking at his eyes. "Follow me."

Chapter 2

The scent of sandalwood and fresh soil trickled by raindrops wafted through the air, gently attacking my nostrils. I followed Ajax through the woods which I realized were already near and almost reaching the boundary the pack's Alpha King had previously placed. There were thorns and strong scents of Ajax's father in this kind of boundaries to, of course, declare territory and possession. "A-Ajax, where are we going?" I asked him as I warily looked around. There were no other werewolves aside from us. Ajax stopped abruptly and glanced at me from the side. Did something happen? Did Ajax do something and wanted my help? Questions began to swirl in my mind, wondering why Ajax suddenly wanted to take me here. For the record, Ajax only treated me as someone he could order around. Both in the academy and at home, as an omega, I heeded and obeyed to every order of the Alpha King's family, particularly of the Alpha Prince Ajax. Ever since I was a child, I had always followed him and catered to his needs and wants without any hesitation. And even when other members of the pack bullied me and mocked me for having a crush on Ajax, I remained strong-willed and stayed... Not by his side, of course, but at his back, where I naturally and supposedly should be, so that I can listen to his orders and commands. Whether by luck or fate, Ajax never witnessed the times I was ridiculed for being an omega. More than half of me preferred not to let him see, afraid his vision of me as a cheerful and obedient omega would be tainted once he saw me being made fun of easily. For me, having to stay by his side was enough. I could and would never ask for more. "Say, Claire," Ajax suddenly spoke. He was still in his wolf form. "What will you do if you found out your mate is someone everybody dislikes?" I couldn't help but look at him in surprise. I didn't expect such a question from him at all. As much as I found his question to be odd, I still wanted to help him and make our master-servant relationship better. So with a smile, I told him, "If my mate is someone everybody dislikes... Umm, I think I will try to learn more about him or her first. Instead of relying too much about others' opinions. In the end, if the person is my mate, I should accept him or her, right? After all, having a mate is a gift given by the moon goddess. Ah, but this doesn't apply to everyone. Of course, if the mate is a horrible person, one should think twice before accepting that person!" Ajax looked at me, face expressionless. The wind made a loud wheezing sound as the leaves on the trees and vines danced in a direction-confused manner. Rubbing my arm for a bit as I suddenly felt shameful for speaking too much, I stared down at the ground, waiting for Ajax's reply. After a few minutes, Ajax finally spoke. "You're right. Maybe I should learn more about my mate first and see whether they are worthy to be my mate... or they need to be rejected." Then he turned to me and looked straight into my eyes, his voice full of seriousness and clear authority, "Claire, from now on, you only need to follow me. There's no need to think about anything or anyone else. Do you understand?" My heart began to pound loudly at his words. I never expected such words to come out from Ajax's lips. It was like asking to remain by his side forever...! "Yes, I understand," I bowed down as a salute, a warm feeling spreading across my chest. I couldn't help but smile. Now I was sure Ajax was the Alpha I would forever serve and love with all my heart. The night was becoming colder and deeper and the pleasant scent coming from Ajax soothed me like a lullaby in spring. The moon was full and bright, my eyes became heavy as I began to picture images of the future together with Ajax. When I returned home, my brother Navi was already there and was in the middle of talking with my mother. They stopped as they turned to look at me. I could feel their worry upon looking at their eyes which made me began to worry too. "Mother, brother, is there something wrong?" I asked them. Mother looked away while my brother Navi stared at me with a pair of serious eyes which he rarely ever used. "Claire, we're leaving the pack." I frowned as I heard his words. "Brother...?" Navi sighed, face constricted as if he wanted to tell me something but couldn't. "There's no time to argue. We'll leave tomorrow before the sun rises." "No!" I shouted, furious at their sudden announcement. "I'm not going to leave North! This is our pack. We belong here, brother! What's up with you and mother, suddenly thinking of such things?" I couldn't imagine myself leaving North. Especially with Ajax here, the one I vowed to stay beside and serve with all my life... There was no way I was leaving this place whatever happened! "Stop being selfish and listen to your elder brother!" My brother Navi exclaimed, now looking madly furious as well. "Mother and I have decided. Claire, you're only eighteen and you... You..." He gave me that look once more, the look as if he was in great pain and desperately wanted to tell me something but couldn't. My heart remained steeled as I angrily refuted, "No means no, brother! Why are you deciding this all of sudden anyway? Tell me!" "Claire!" My brother roared. "Claire, do you really need to raise your voice to your brother like that?" My mother said, intervening between me and Navi. "Then tell me, mother, why are we leaving? Why do we need to leave?" I asked them, feeling the formation of hot tears at the back of my eyes. My mother who rarely ever showed her emotions, for once, gave a pained expression. "It's... It's not good for us to stay here." Surprised and confused, I was about to ask once more when Navi spoke. "Claire, we're leaving whether you like it or not." Fisting my hands as his words fueled my anger more, I looked at them with fury and hate enough to make my words across. "Brother... and you too mother... you can go wherever you please but I will remain here. No matter what, I'm not going to leave the pack." I couldn't leave Ajax. I didn't want to be part from him. I heard my mother and brother calling my name numerous times but I remained deaf to their words as I ran out. I ran fast as I could, wanting to relieve all the frustration I was feeling at the moment as I tried to transform. Harder and harder, I tried but failed. In the end, I could only pant as I felt air seeming to escape from my lungs after the long sprint I had done. Leaning on the huge mahogany tree, I slowly closed my eyes and tried to rest, deciding to go back home as soon as I had finally let off some of my hot and angered steam. With the thought of not wanting to leave Ajax and trying to replace the arguments I just had with my family with more pleasant imaginations, I slowly, unknowingly, drifted off to sleep. It was the first time I heard a voice talking to me in an almost agonizing, desperate plea. "Claire, you need to wake up... Ajax, this scum alpha, will be the cause of your demise... You will lose everything because of him... Wake up, Claire... Ajax is only trying to fool you... Omegas are nothing but trash to his eyes... Claire, you must do something... He's the reason your entire family will be killed...!! You need to act before it's too late...!" With my heart racing and my body almost feeling as if it was in scorching hot flames, I opened my eyes and saw the moon shining brightly above. What was that? A nightmare? But whose voice was that? It sounded like a woman's voice, nearly similar to my mother's... Mother... Where's mother?! I quickly got up, unbothered by the fact that I was already at home. Not thinking about how I ended up back here, I immediately went to check my mother. She was supposed to be next to me. But when I turned my head to see, I found out the space next to me was empty. Sprinting ahead, I went to check my brother Navi whose room was on the next door. To my horror, he also wasn't there. Gasping for breath and hearing the loud beating of my heart, I went out of our house and began to search for them. I needed to see them to clear my head out of that nightmare! "Mother! Navi!" I shouted but no one seemed to hear and willing to respond. Passing by different dwellings, I asked the members of the pack if they had seen my mother and brother. "Have you seen my mother? And my brother? Have you seen them?" One of them stared at me with irritation. "Aren't you with them?" "Omegas should stick with omegas." "Stop bothering us and ask your fellow omegas about omegas." "If you've got nothing else to do, go to the river and help other omegas gather some food. Stop lazing around, an omega should know her place." The blood in my veins began to boil at the other higher rank's remarks and comments. All I wanted was to know where my mother and brother were! Even in this situation, why would ranks still matter?! "Despicable..." I couldn't help but let out under my breath. Why... Why were we being treated like this? Just because we were omegas, we were treated as nothing but mere servants and slaves... and even at this time of need, no help could even be asked! Why?!! "Claire." Before tears could spill from my eyes, I heard a familiar voice coming from the back. I turned around and saw Ajax, together with Selene. There was a frown on Ajax's face as he spoke directly to me. "I've been looking for you everywhere. Just where have you been?" I couldn't speak a word nor utter a sound. My heart felt like breaking and the tears wanting to come out from my eyes wavered as I saw it. On Selene's neck was a freshly bitten mark. And although I was an omega, I could fairly smell the scent of a newly fated pair. Ajax and Selene... They finally did it... "Hey, what's wrong with you?" Ajax asked, moving closer to where I was. My emotions were messy and I couldn't think straight anymore. Head turning to the ground, I hid my face and said in a low voice. "My mother and brother... they are missing... Can I look for them first?" "Your mother and brother..." Ajax uttered more to himself which caught my attention. "Do you- Do you know where they are?" I faced Ajax and almost knelt down to ask, my hands grabbing his arm. To my surprise, however, Ajax only stared down at the pair of hands that touched his arm with a deep frown on his face. If I could see it clearly, they were full of loathing and disgust. Trembling, I retracted my hands and once more stared at the ground. This was it. If nobody was willing to help me, then I should at least do something, even if I have to do it alone. Bowing my head down, I excused myself and turned around. Not even a minute left when I heard Ajax's domineering voice that almost echoed through the entire vicinity. "Stop!" My body stopped as a reflex and turned to look at him. Looking cold and distant, with Selene by his left and a beta, his right hand in command, by his other side, Ajax declared, "You're staying." My eyes widened at his words. What was he saying? Didn't I just mention my family members were missing? "But my mother and my brother! They could be in danger!" I told him once again, begging to be understood. But Ajax's eyes were filled with no warmth at all. Instead, he began to say the coldest words I have ever heard. "Dead or alive, do you think anyone would care about them?" I felt my heart breaking into more pieces. Paired with my anxiety and my mind that was almost driven to insanity, my whole body began to turn cold. I only realized Ajax was already near me when he began to speak in a low and dark voice, "You only need to stay here, just as I ordered you a month ago. Claire, you're the only omega I want. Isn't that enough for you?" His words made me dumbstruck, slowly breaking the steel walls I had constantly built the past years. Bit by bit, the world I had created where Ajax and I could live together in harmony, despite being from different identities and statuses, slowly fell and broke into pieces. As it turned out, Ajax was also the same. He despised omegas like myself, and I, miserably, became too blind and failed to see it. "Horrible..." I murmured as I bawled my fists, barely containing my anger and misery. "You know what to do, Claire. I don't need to tell you twice," Ajax said again. But I didn't listen to him anymore. I couldn't. My head and heart began to break and voices began to emerge along with different images flashing through my eyes. "I can help you... Claire... Call my name... Say my name Alix... I can lend you my powers... Call my name..." My head started to pound louder and louder as I braced myself, grabbing unto my head. I could somewhat hear Ajax's voice calling out to me but I could no longer care. The last thing I remembered was being carried and placed on a soft bed with Ajax looming over me before everything turned black.

Chapter 3

"Claire, do you want to know where your mother and brother are?" A woman's voice asked me. I could hear her well but I couldn't see her. There was a wisp of light in the center of the dark - this dark place to which I assume was a room. There were no walls, ceilings, nor floors. It was plain darkness tinted by one single light coming from the small wisp like a candle flame at the center. "Yes. Please tell me where they are," I responded. Unexpectedly, my voice sounded calmer than I thought it would be. I remember making a huge scene earlier, after all. My emotions were all over the place and my fear for my family's lives made me even more anxious. I couldn't help but lose my sanity and myself back then. "They are in a safe place, Claire. But I am afraid to tell you, you can no longer see them in the world you're living in," the voice continued to explain to me. "What do you mean?" I asked. "They are not dead, but they aren't alive either," the woman replied vaguely. I frowned, feeling something was wrong. I swallowed down my fears and bravely asked, "What's the cause of this? And what should I do to see them again?" It didn't matter what the future held or what the things I would need to do were. If it meant being able to see my mother and brother―my only family members left―then I was more than willing to sell my own soul to the devil. Or whatever creature it was I was talking to. "I'm afraid I cannot tell you more than this as fate dictated you're already bound to know it all yourself. But as for the reason, I can tell you some things. I believe it is a curse, a dark spell given to your race after experiencing a rejection." "A rejection?" I couldn't help but feel my body turned cold. Rejection? Why would I suffer from a rejection? From all I know, only mates could do something such as this rejection. And it was a painful process too. "Your mate is an alpha," the woman said, making my eyes wide in surprise. "Unfortunately, your mate rejected you. And as a consequence, your mother and brother disappeared..." "What did you say...?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Both my mother and brother... disappeared... because of me? "It is something beyond your control, Claire," she said with a gentler voice, "A witch cursed your family race a long time ago. If one of you gets rejected by his or her fated mate, one or more of the other living family members and his or her mate's family members, will vanish. They or they may not continue to live in another world, lifetime, or timeline, as completely different people." "What does that even mean..." I muttered between my breaths. I couldn't decipher what she was saying at all. Mates, rejection, living in another world... In the first place, wouldn't this happen at all if not due to me and my recklessness? Just who was it that was rejected and caused the entire family's demise? It was me. I was the one who caused it. All because I was rejected. But by who? Who was my mate and why did he reject me? Was it because I was an omega? But how did he know? And when did he reject me? Didn't they say only after being confessed to about fated pairing and mating, could a werewolf "reject" his or her mate? When did I ever confess my feelings to? And who was it that rejected me? As I began to ask more questions in my head, the small wisp of flame before me began to disintegrate with the dark and slowly, I felt my eyes open. An unfamiliar white ceiling immediately welcomed me, paired with the soft fabric beneath my body. Almost dying out of dehydration, I began to open my lips. My weak hearing that resembled an ordinary human failed to notice another person was, in actuality, in the same room I was in. It was only after a while when I regained some more senses and strength to move my fingers that I realized the other person's presence. It was Ajax. And he was sleeping right next to me. With surprised eyes, my heart began to pound loud in confusion, anxiety, and fear. What was I doing in Ajax's bedroom? From what I knew, this was the concrete house of the Larwoods family near the city. It resembled the ones being used by humans of high statuses like Alphas did in our pack. I had only been here for a couple of times and they were only whenever I and my family were asked to lend a hand in cleaning and doing some maintenance to this house. After all, such a huge house was ever barely used by the Larwoods family. As per tradition and origin, they still preferred to live near the Northern woods where their real territory was located. Suddenly going to this mansion... Why was Ajax doing this? Didn't he hate this mansion? I remembered it clearly. It was only an accident but I once heard Ajax arguing with his father. As it turned out, Ajax refused to stay in this mansion as he didn't want to live near creatures such as humans. He hated them for some reason. But then again, after hearing his words earlier while I was begging to look for my family, it might be that I was wrong again. Perhaps, Ajax hated us omegas more than he had hated humans. Just thinking about this possibility made a twinge in my heart. I couldn't believe I was too blind to see for myself. Ajax clearly didn't like us, omegas, not even a bit... So that led to the question―why did he bring me here? And why was I in his bedroom? A thought began to cross my mind. An extremely ridiculous one. With a heart almost jumping out of my throat, I slowly looked down at my body, beneath the white covers. My face almost fell and my whole world stopped as I found out―I was naked. And when I glanced over Ajax, I found out that he, too, didn't wear any single clothing... Alarmed, I tried to move slowly, eager to leave. But before I could produce any sound or make a move, Ajax's eyes opened. Blazing, deep blue eyes stared right back at mine as he slowly parted his lips. "Where do you think you're going?"

Chapter 4

My mind was too hazy and I could feel my bones tightening against my skin. Just how did I end up here? Who brought me here? Ajax―why in the world would he...? To my surprise, Ajax, with his magnetic and low voice, asked, "Where do you think you're going?" I almost jumped out of shock. "Y-You're awake?" "The entire time," he said. His tone was serious and held no humor in it. Slowly, he got up, revealing his naked chest and six pack abs. I hesitantly looked away, covering my own self with some apprehension. With my chest pounding a little louder than before, I asked, "Why... am I here?" What did the Alpha Prince want me, a mere omega, here for? I did not want to see his expression so I remained looking far and away from him. I could feel he was already standing and in the middle of getting changed. His movements didn't comfort me nor made me think I was safe. In a while, I heard him finally respond. With an icy tone, Ajax said, "From now on, you're going to live here." Thousands of images flashed back to my mind. If this was the me from a year ago, I would've already jumped from joy upon hearing such things. He was, after all, the person I've been loving from afar. But now that things have changed and I knew how Ajax saw me as... I gripped hard at the white sheet covering my body. Bravely, I responded, "Would I be living as your personal servant?" From what I knew, it was rare for servants―omegas―to serve the masters in bed. This was a rare occurrence since Alphas rarely wanted to mate with low races like omegas, but it was still a plausible reason in my current situation as such, there were only few female omegas in our pack and only there was only me who was around Ajax's age. I just didn't fully understand why Ajax would do this all of a sudden and out of so many people. "That's right. You're a servant," Ajax said, his tone devoid of any warmth, the complete opposite of what I've loved and dreamt of before. "You're here to be my servant and nothing more." I bit my lower lip while listening to his words. Again, I was treated like this. A servant, someone who couldn't even do what she wanted, someone who couldn't even say NO no matter how she desired... Before anything else happened, I heard Ajax's footsteps and soon, he was already leaving the room. He paused, seemed to be glancing over me, before he finally exited and closed the door behind him. I breathed out a sigh. Just what went wrong to this simple life of mine? I remembered being content to some degree and living a life where much complications did not exist. Even if I was only an omega and was treated badly by those people at the academy, I decided to endure. This much, I could do and always thought I would willingly do. I thought to myself, that time particularly, that I could and would not ask for more. Because I was part of the unpriviledged. Because I was an omega. *"You're here to be my servant and nothing more."* Recalling Ajax's sentence pricked my heart, slowly stabbing it repeatedly until it began to bleed. Did I ever ask to be treated this way? Did I ever wish to be brought along to this house and what, serve him in bed? Suddenly, I remembered Selene Alcarez, the beautiful member of the pack living near our pack's territory. The she-wolf everyone expected to be Ajax's future Luna. She and Ajax... They had mated. I couldn't be wrong. I saw the fresh mark on her neck that time. They really had done it for real. They were now mates. Then why was I even here? Why did Ajax bring me to this place? If he had a mate, shouldn't he bring her here instead? Didn't they say, once mated, a wolf could only live and engage sexual activity with him or her? This wasn't right. I should tell Ajax this wasn't right at all. Springing from the bed, I grabbed the only set of clothes placed on the table that I saw and quickly wore them. In a speeding movement, I half-walked half-ran to the door and opened it. *Where is Ajax?* I needed to tell him he was wrong and he shouldn't be touching me anymore, else, he would suffer from the consequences from the moon goddess! Sprinting down in hopes to look for Ajax, I looked around and ran through the hallways, the huge white t-shirt I wore almost falling from my slender body but I couldn't care. I needed to see Ajax and tell him, perhaps he had forgotten about it, so I should remind him... "Ow," due to the thoughts continue swirling in my head, I didn't notice another person when I made a turn to the left, bumping my head against him. A tall, handsome man looked down at me, his eyes a deep hazel brown, almost similar to mine. I realized it was his chest that I bumped into and immediately apologized, "I'm sorry!" The man, who looked like nothing far from my and Ajax's age, said in a magnetic, low voice, "It's fine. Watch where you're going next time." I bowed still, wary of my status once again, and apologized. A little while later, I heard the man began to walk away, only to stop midway. He turned to look at me and I saw him flash a gentle smile―something I haven't seen in a while. "Are you Ajax's mate?" He asked me with a gentle tone. "My name is Elias Thornwheel. I came to talk to Ajax about his and my territory." His territory...? So he was―he was an Alpha? Elias seemed to have noticed what I was thinking and stared deeply in my eyes. "Yes, I'm an alpha, but I'm about to be the king yet. My father sent me to have a talk with the North pack's leader, Ajax Larwoods." "But Ajax isn't the leader..." I murmured to myself. There was still his father, Thomas Larwoods. A look of surprise painted on Elias' face. He gave me a look that neither belittle nor mock me out of my ignorance. Instead, he patiently explained, "Mr. Larwoods, his father―he went missing few days ago. Haven't you heard about it?" My eyes widened at what I had heard. Ajax's father... was missing? Our pack's leader was missing?? "Aren't you his mate? How come you didn't know? His pheromones are even all over you and that cloth... or was I mistaken?" Elias asked, more to himself. In my desperate need to know more, I grabbed his arms and asked. "Where's Alpha Prince Ajax?" Elias did not utter a word for a few seconds, his eyes only landing on the pair of hands that suddenly touched him. "How would I know? I'm also looking for him." I need to see Ajax and ask him about our pack. What happened and why was I brought here. No, why did he keep me in the dark? Why did he not tell me about the Alpha King, Mr. Larwoods', disappearance? Wait. His father disappeared, too. Just like my mother and brother did... No, it couldn't be, right? Slowly, the words of the woman which I assumed to be a witch or a mage, who visited in my dream as a wisp, came to my mind. "A witch cursed your family race a long time ago. If one of you gets rejected by his or her fated mate, one or more of the other living family members and his or her's mate's family members will vanish. They or they may not continue to live in another world, lifetime, or timeline, as completely different people." My mother and brother's disappearance, and Ajax's father's disappearance... It couldn't be... There was no way they had something to do with each other... Right?

Chapter 5

In the South Eastern woods, near the river that connected the two biggest lakes in the world, lived the Thornwheel Clan―or in the wolf term, the Crescent River Pack. Just like Larwoods family or the Crescent Glacier Pack, Ajax's clan in the North, Elias Thornwheel was a part of the Thornwheel Clan occupying the largest area in the South Eastern Woods they had claimed as their territory. Elias, similar to Ajax, was also someone next to the throne and was prophecied to become the next Alpha King. Both Elias and Ajax were responsible to rule, especially when the Alpha King suddenly went missing. Just as what was currently happening. I later found out that the Alpha King Thomas disappeared after battling a group of humans with lethal weapons while trying to scout the barriers of the place where everyone in the pack resided. According to Kid, the beta and right hand of our Alpha King Thomas Larwoods, the humans tried to use their bullets and some even made use of special crafts while trying to invade the territory that we all knew Mr. Larwoods had protected for hundreds of years. I myself couldn't say much about humans since I rarely interacted with them. I was an omega who was raised to serve the greatest leaders of our group and no matter how I wished to know more about such a race, I could only ever do so through reading books. Of course, such books were just lent from a beta friend who had the privilege to own them. This didn't hide the fact, however, that humans were creatures filled with so much greed and other evil intentions. As it turned out, the humans that Alpha King Thomas battled with wanted to clear the entire forest, cutting down all the trees present and claiming them as their own. Enraged, Ajax's father did everything he could to protect the North. The battle went on for one entire night, right about when it was full moon. So every member of the pack present were in their strongest forms when they did face the trespassing humans. "Are you really from the Crescent Glacier's pack? The Larwoods' territory?" a werewolf named Timothy, a beta standing beside Elias Thornwheel, asked as he looked at me in suspicion. Elias who stood tall and mighty was also staring at me. I couldn't refute these reactions at all. I wanted to tell them I, too, was surprised to find out these things only today. But I kept these to myself since I knew nobody would dare listen to my story anyway. It was a long one and people mostly wanted to hear what they wanted to hear. For an omega to share what's on her mind―this was a book that nobody would ever pick up and read in this world at all. As someone who was barely noticed aside from casual mockery and belittling times, I told them simply, "There are some things not everyone is allowed to hear... Anyway, forget about me, let's find Alpha Prince Ajax." I really thought these people held great importance to what was happening in our territory, most especially to the Alpha King. Perhaps, they were here to lend a hand, or discuss some more important things... No matter what it was, I believed only alphas like Ajax would purely understand. Luckily, both Elias and Timothy agreed and we all began to head towards the garden. While trying to look for Ajax in each corner of this massive mansion, I've realized something that made me even curious than I already was. There were no servants or other people to be found. Why? It was only when we had reached the exit to the eastern wing side of the gigantic, concrete house, that I noticed four familiar people from our pack. These people were betas and if I remember it correctly, two of them were the closest to Ajax. They were male werewolf twins named Zen and Ren. One had golden eyes while the other had greyish eyes. "Where's Alpha Prince Ajax?" I tried to ask them, using the same voice and greetings I usually used when I talked to them during the days Ajax would order me around. One of the beta twins, Ren, the one with golden eyes, gave me a glare as if I had done something bad, while Zen, the one with greyish eyes, gave me a somewhat pitiful stare. "Why are you looking at me like that? Please tell me, where is Ajax?" I bravely asked once more. Ren frowned deeply as he took a step forward, almost wanting to attack me with his eyes. "It was all your fault, you damn omega..." "Ren!" Zen called, stopping Ren from even moving towards me. "Stop it, Ren. Claire doesn't know anything." Ren removed the arm grabbing him and began to look at me with some more disgust. "Ha, she doesn't know? Stop protecting disgusting things. If not for this crazy omega wanting our leader's son-" "I said quit it!" Zen warned. "Why should I? Zen, this bitch is the main cause of our pack's doom! It's all her fault!" Ren roared, eyes full of fury. "Why...?" I asked softly and suddenly, making everyone stopped and looked at me. I could feel all their eyes―Zen, Ren, the other two betas, and even Elias and Timothy―on me. "Why?" I began to mutter once again. With head hanging low and eyes staring at the ground, I began to feel the formation of something hot at the back of my eyes as I clenched my trembling fists. Slowly, I turned my head up to face them, uncontrollable hot tears strolled down my cheeks as I desperately begged for an answer to my forever question. "I'm just an omega trying to live... Why am I being blamed?" Then came out a soft, almost breaking into a whisper voice that I could barely recognize as my own. "What did I do to be hated this much?" Must all hate fall into us just because we were considered the 'lowest' kind? Why must we all face such discrimination and loathing? What did I―we―ever do to be hated this much? Being an omega and trying to live in peace―was it a sin after all? "What's going on here?" In that confusing moment where I could no longer feel my own self, I heard a familiar voice. A voice which paused all things at once as if he was made to make everyone turn to him and give full respects to. A voice which I know, whether my eyes were open or not, would never fail to bring me back to the present. "Alpha Prince...!" I heard both Ren and Zen call out. I saw Ajax standing there, with two more betas in each of his side and one old man who I presumed to be one of the elders in our pack. "Claire, come here," I heard Ajax order.

Chapter 6

The surroundings became hazy and my mind paused from thinking countless things, including my current position. I couldn't see the expression on Ajax's face but I could feel his anger as in a swift movement, he appeared to my side and grabbed my arm. He probably was furious for seeing such a scene caused by an omega... Especially with the fact that there were two visitors, too... Unexpectedly, I didn't hear any word from Ajax after that as he only seemed to have stared at me and my body, as if checking something from head to toe which I couldn't comprehend, before releasing me from his hold. Immediately, I was escorted by two omegas, who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, back to the room I woke up in earlier. While on our way, I heard the omegas whispering behind my back. "Is she really the one...?" One of them asked. "Sshh, we're not allowed to talk about her. You already know that," another said. Two were female omegas I haven't seen before. There were few female omegas in our pack, the Crescent Glacier Pack. So these two new omegas... Who were they and why did Ajax order them to accompany me? Did he perhaps... wanted to end me? "P-Please don't look at us with those eyes," one of them suddenly said, looking at me with nervous looks. "W-We're not bad omegas." I realized I may have been looking at them with a face full of suspicions. Gulping down my own share of anxieties, I asked them, hopeful, "You... From what pack are you and why are you here?" The two female omegas looked at each other, as if contemplating whether speaking was allowed for them. "It's okay, I won't tell the Alpha Prince," I told them, thinking back on how Ajax hated omegas and it must be that these omegas had personally witnessed this fact as well. To my surprise, one of them took a step near me. "We're from the East's Crescent Lake. I am called Ether and this is Shila, my sister. Sorry for the late introduction, Luna..." she explained. My eyes widened at how she addressed me. "What- What did you call me?" "Aren't you the Alpha Prince's mate?" Ether asked, dubious of what she was even saying for a second. "You're Claire Hanzel, right? You are the next Luna. Our Luna." More than being surprised for having called as a Luna, my body trembled as I heard those words ― Alpha Prince's mate. I remembered Elias Thornwheel also labeling me as such earlier. It was probably due to my scent. Ajax... Just why did he even spread his scent all over me? Why were we on the same bed? For how long did we... My chest paused from beating at the thought. Did we really do it? But how could this happen? Ajax hated me. He hated omegas as much as he hated humans! But why... Why would he sleep with me if he hated me this much? "You're wrong..." I muttered under my breath, barely holding my emotions. It was as if thousands of images began flashing through my brain once more, similar to that time when I was looking for my mother and brother desperately. That time, voices kept urging me to do something just like in my dream. Ajax, he was a scum alpha. He was the cause of my demise. He was the cause of my only family members' disappearance... Was he really my mate then? That curse―was it really fulfilled after Ajax rejected me? But how? Did he really know I was his mate, so he rejected me as soon as he discovered it...? Alix... Call me, Claire... My name is Alix... I will tell you everything you want to know... Call me... Alix. If I would call out to this person, would she really tell me everything? I wanted to know why and how did it come to this. How I was in this situation, and how I suddenly became Ajax's mate. The moment the two female omegas left, I immediately went to check the room and looked for a candle. I didn't know why I suddenly had the idea of searching for one, but when I remember that small wisp of light like a candle light in the middle of a dark room, my heart and mind urged me to look for it. It was as though I had long known how to speak to these people, or whatever they were called, and only by lighting one candle and calling out one of them, was the only way to know the truth, aside from talking through dreams. Opening the wooden drawers and cabinets that were obviously barely touched but still well-maintained and cleaned, I searched through every level, wanting to find a candle. While searching for one and opened the lowest drawer near the bed, I found a worn-looking object which seemed to be a box. It was the only thing in the drawer. Suddenly curious, my hand speculated the box, my fingers hovering over the intricate designs around it. The more I touched the box, the louder my heartbeat pounded. Just what was in this box and why was it hidden here, with nothing else next to or surrounded it? Frowning a bit, I was about to open the box when I heard the door opening. With my heart almost dropping down the floor, I quickly placed the box back inside the drawer and closed it. Then I immediately got up from my crouching position and faced the newly arrived person―the person that filled my heart and mind, the person who turned out to be my mate but rejected me. "Alpha Prince," I called out. Ajax stared at me with a pair of eyes that held no intention of letting me ask questions. I knew others would surely tell me to ask him, to ask the very person who seemed to be the one who knew everything, but when I looked at his eyes and he stared right back at mine, I could feel the dread of doing such a thing. Because those eyes only meant one thing: I, an omega, did not have the right to ask questions and get answers from an alpha. "Why were you with Elias?" "Huh?" I blinked, looking at him. I was almost dumbfounded at what he asked all of a sudden. To my surprise even more, Ajax began taking steps to me which caused my heart to start pounding loudly. I started to take steps back as a reflex, eyes looking at him directly as I watched him move. Ajax stepped closer and closer until he reached me, his towering figure looming over my smaller stature. "I asked a question," Ajax said again, his tone clearly disapproving rooms for humor, patience, and deception. The alpha pheromones he was releasing made me feel weak in the knees, almost wanting to fall down and embrace myself in protection. Why was he asking me such an odd question? I only bumped into Elias Thornwheel and nothing more. More than that, Ren and Zen, his betas, they kept on telling me everything was my fault. Could he at least tell me the reason why they said those words? Ajax―our Alpha Prince―can he at least tell me, if he truly was my mate? "Claire―" "Is it true?" I asked, finding the courage as I lifted my head up and looked at his face. As expected, Ajax still wore those eyes that told anyone he was superior, he was in a different world, he was unreachable. His eyes were unreadable this time though as they bore into mine, his lips parting, "What do you mean?" I swallowed down my fears more as I looked at him with clenched fists, "I... I am your mate. And you, you rejected me. Is it true?" I could hear my own heart beating louder and louder it almost felt like leaping right out of my chest. Every second seemed to be a thousand year as Ajax only looked at me and I looked at him. His clear, cerulean blue eyes that reminded me of those good, summer days, seemed to have turned to a dark, stormy night as he answered me, finally. "It is." Air seemed to have escaped my lungs and my whole body began to turn cold. So it was true... Ajax... The person whom I had been liking far afar ever since I was young, was my mate. But just as predicted, for being an omega, for being in such a low status, I was rejected. Before hot tears could even flow down my cheeks, I suddenly heard him spoke once more. "It doesn't change anything though," Ajax said, hands moving up to touch my face. My eyes widened at his action. Looking up, I looked at his face and almost felt my chest breaking even more. With an almost crazed expression paired with a low, dominating voice, Ajax caressed my cheeks, his alpha pheromones increasing in every second, filling every breath I took, owning all of my senses. "Whether you're accepted or rejected by me, the fact that you belong to me will never change." He was a great alpha and I was a mere omega. He was the man I had love for a long time and vowed to stay with in the future until the day I die. Being his servant was something I was tasked to, whether I liked it or not. But because my heart couldn't stop loving him, I took the task naturally and willingly. But because of fate, these things could no longer be the same. Whether it was yesterday's smiles or tomorrow's hopeful beams―everything shattered because of fate. Clear, blue eyes lit and reflected my messed up face as a low, magnetic voice penetrated my ears. "Do you understand now, Claire? Even if you object, even if you want to leave, I will never let you go." With that, Ajax drew me closer, hand cupping my cheek. "You're mine, Claire. Fate says so and neither one of us can change it." If I look up now and make a howling sound, a sound that held my numerous questions, of alphas and omegas and fates and rejections―would it reach the Moon Goddess, answer my prayers, and wipe away my tears?

Chapter 7

I met Ajax when I was six years old. He was seven that time but among all the other alphas born, he was the smallest and weakest in looks. Naturally, even betas began to question whether he was a real alpha or not. During those times, I still didn't know the line between alphas and omegas. All I knew was I was a kid and he was a kid. And no kids deserved to be treated harshly, whether by actions or words. When the kids went away and all that was left was Ajax, I hid myself from one of the trees, peeking and waiting for him to get mad or cry after being bullied. I waited and waited, but the birds flew and the clouds changed their colors, yet Ajax remained silent. I realized he wasn't the type to cry nor get mad easily. Even when people began questioning his abilities when he turned sixteen and transformed, Ajax only silently listened to them. On the day of the annual battle training, he defeated the same people who had doubted his skills as an alpha. Not even once did he give his time to lecture them face-front nor did he explain himself. From then on, I had assumed Ajax to be a person who chose forgiveness over grudge, sympathy over ridicule, peace over war. In my eyes, Ajax was the exact description of a "Prince", similar to those princes in the tales I have been hearing and reading secretly. A prince ready to understand his people, a prince willing to listen and protect his members, a prince with a kind heart and good temperament. But I was wrong. Because the "Prince" I had dreamt and assumed to be the best person in the world... turned out to be the worst being I had ever come across with. "I asked you a question, Claire. Answer it," Ajax ordered in a low, ragged breath, his skin close to mine as we connected. I could feel his member going in and out of my lower region, my mind mushy and about to turn to a big lump of bread from the sensation. It had been half an hour since we began yet it seemed as though Ajax wasn't near satisfied with both my answer and the times we had done it. "I said I, I bumped into him," I answered, my face red as I tried to bite my lip but failed as Ajax suddenly grabbed my head, turning me to face him. There was a deep frown on his face as he glared down at me, "You know I hate liars, Claire." I wanted to tell him I wasn't lying at all but he didn't give me the chance as he bit my lip once more. Ajax kissed me as if he was punishing me―deep, suffocating, and full of anger. When and why did I ever think he was the most gentle and kindest "prince" that needed protection and adoration? Everything was a lie. The entire room was filled with the smell of our sexual intercourse, dominated by Ajax's alpha pheromones that continued to attack my entire being. His thrusts became much hurried as we both moaned and fell into a deep craze filled with lust, whether it was because of "fate" or whatever it was, I couldn't decipher anymore. Moaning in pleasure, my hands were about to hang onto his shoulders when Ajax gave me another glare, stopping my movements. There was no time to feel my heart break as he suddenly plunged in too deep, hitting the softest spots deep inside me. I could almost feel like a softening potato, my insides melting slowly. Not knowing where to put my hands on, I tried to grab the sheets underneath me when Ajax's hands grabbed mine, his thrusts even going rougher in every move while staring down at me and holding me in place. As he did this, I couldn't help but feel my broken heart pounded, a lingering hope wanting to appear in a desperate plea. "Ahh!" I almost screamed as he brutally attacked the deepest spots inside me. Ajax grunted with low facets of movements, moans escaping his lips as he pulled me up. I felt my entire self melting, my heart softening, as Ajax embraced me close, his arms circling me possessively. With a final, deep thrust and a guttural sound of release, Ajax met his climax, filling me up to the brim. With our bodies connected and with lust and passion leaking out of our systems―whether due to fate or something else―Ajax stared right through my eyes, the deep hatred I was looking for missing. It was gone as fast as it came though and with my body soft and swollen all over as I lay down the bed naked, I felt Ajax's figure moved from the sheets. My half-lidded eyes caught sight of him dressing up, then immediately, almost as if he was eager to go, Ajax opened the door and left the room. My heart was probably too dumb and numb, for hating him didn't arrive. At that moment, no matter how I wanted to scream at him for doing things as he pleased, my body softened and I couldn't help but pull him closer as he held me closer. It was too far from making love but the idea that we connected and Ajax looked at me with that pair of―almost loving―eyes... froze whatever loathing I was keeping inside. I was dumb. I knew I was. There was no way Ajax would love me. But for just this once, just this once, let me taste what affection meant... Hugging myself in a fetus position as I lay down with my naked body, I silently, slowly, let myself fall asleep. "Are you really going to let this pass? Claire, your family needs you. The omegas are suffering. All of them are being treated miserably... Wake up, Claire! Do you really want to see how your race meet its end?" A voice of a woman woke me up and when I opened my eyes, I found myself in a dark room once more. There was a wisp of light at the center but this time, the color and temperature were different. It seemed as though she could read my mind as she spoke. "I'm Ursula." I noticed it was a different voice from last time. The woman who called me last time was called "Alix" if I could remember it right. This one was Ursula... Just what were they? "I'm a witch," Ursula explained. "I've been dead for ages. You may not believe it but I've been watching you ever since you were a kid. I know things about you other people do not know that well. Your dislikes, your personal desires, your beloved... but these aren't important. Claire, I know you treasure your race and treat them as your own family. Right now, they are suffering under the hands of other races. You yourself experienced it. I'm here to tell you that you are the only one who can save them. I'm asking you, in the name of the Jaderoot Order, to save your race." I almost wanted to shout, but my response came a lot calmer as I expected. "What do you mean?" Why did I have to do with these things? First, I was blamed for our "pack's doom", now I was the only one who can save my omega race? Who would believe such things? And what did she mean by Jaderoot Order? What was that? The light dimmed a little, flickering against the dark. "You may be confused right now, but you shall not fear, Claire. You will be safe as long as you listen to me. I can help you accomplish everything. I will guide you in every step." Then with a lighter tone, the wisp began to integrate with the dark. "First, you need to stop harboring good feelings for your mate." Stop harboring feelings for my mate... I needed to stop loving him. Stop loving Ajax... Can I really do it?

Chapter 8

"No." In the midst of almost being controlled by whatever it was that enveloped me in this dark place, I clenched my fists. My desire of wanting to know more lessen as my mind kept going back to Ajax's eyes that stared at me with warmth. No matter how little, no matter how absurd, I must cling onto it and not let it fade. "Claire...!" The voice called me once more. But I remained unbothered. How can I listen to these voices when I didn't even know them? What if they were only lying and trying to control me? I wasn't born to be someone to let that happen. More than anything and anyone, I knew myself and understood what I wanted. And right now, I chose and want to understand Ajax. With a resolute mind, the voice of Ursula who claimed to be a witch and member of the Jaderoot Order, slowly faded. In another second, my eyes opened. "Ah, you're awake!" A voice of a young woman came to my ears. When I glanced at my side, I found the female omega from before. I remembered her name being Shila. "W-Water, do you need water?" Shila asked, anxiously looking at me. I realized then that my body felt heavy and I couldn't move that well. What happened? I heard the door opened and watched as another woman arrived with a basin and new set of clothes. I remembered her name being Ether, another female omega. "Shila, how many times I have to tell you not to raise your volume like that? Luna Claire is having a rest!" Ether scolded Shila in a lower voice which I still caught nonetheless. "B-But she looks in pain and having a nightmare...I wanted to wake her up..." Shila mumbled and kept glancing at me. A smile forming in my lips as I watched the two sisters' interaction, remembering Navi and I whenever we argued. Slowly, I tried moving my fingers and motioned them to help me move my body. Thankfully, the two immediately understood and helped me get up from the bed. In a swift yet careful movement, Shila gave me a cup of water, assisting me to drink it. "Are you okay?" Shila asked, her big round eyes looking worried as she stared at me. I glanced up and noticed Ether was also waiting for me to speak. She was holding the pair of clothes, probably to change me into newer ones. "I'm okay," my voice sounded hoarse as I responded. My sore body felt heavier each time I moved but I dared not to stop from moving up. Even if I had to feel pain all over, I still had things to do. Therefore, I must move. "L-Luna, please don't move too much! You need to rest more!" Ether exclaimed. "Where's the Alpha Prince... I mean, the Alpha King?" I asked them while forcing myself to reach for the clothes Ether was holding. As if they could no longer watch it, Ether and Shila sighed and started helping me dress up. "The Alpha King headed to the Southeastern Woods two days ago. Master Ren and Zen mentioned it will probably take five days before they return," Ether explained. "We were tasked to accompany you wherever you go... You've been asleep for two days. How do you feel? Do you need more water?" Shila moved closer, the cup of water refilled in between her hands. I shook my head as a response, wanting to ease the atmosphere with a better glance at them. They must have been worried about me while waiting for me to wake up. According to them, Ajax fled after having a meeting with Elias Thornwheel, guided by the elders of our pack. It wasn't Ajax but his right hand in command, Zen, who instructed Ether and Shila to look after me. Ajax didn't see me after what happened between us and not even once did he ask about me... Feeling a heavy block stuck at my chest at that, I faced Ether and Shila, "The omegas, the omegas of my pack. Have you heard any word about them?" Ether and Shila exchanged glances before Ether directly faced me. "Do you love the Alpha King, Luna?" "Ether!" Shila called, hand about to grab Ether. I was surprised myself at the sudden question. "Why... are you asking?" Ether nudged Shila's hand away from her and said, "The Alpha King... hates omegas. He hates us more than anything in this world. Your mother and brother disappeared because of him, too, right?" My eyes widened at her words, questioning looks throwing at them. How did they know about that? "We've heard from other omegas from your pack," Ether said. "Before they were taken away." My heartbeat stopped. "What?" Shila grabbed Ether's arm, as if trying to hold her back and refrain her from speaking more. But I was the one who moved closer to them, my silent weakness diminishing in every beat. "They're taken away? The omegas of Crescent Glaciers?" "Enough is enough, Shila. Luna Claire deserves to know what happened," Ether exclaimed, her face turning to me once again. "Luna, the omegas are suffering under the Crescent Glaciers Pack. You've been detained in this mansion for weeks. During your disappearance, there are plenty of omegas taken away by force. Until now, nobody knows where they were taken to. One of them is named Lagand, he stutters all the time. Do you know him?" My body turned cold at what Ether has explained. A broken whisper escaped my lips, "Yes..." Who would forget that man child who always beams the brightest smiles despite having a speaking difficulty? Out of all the omegas in Crescent Glaciers Pack, he had the kindest and purest heart. "Lagand is the one who told us about your family's disappearance when we first came to North. That day, a month after the blue moon where the Alpha Prince, Ajax, was supposed to say his mate's identity but failed to do so, alphas of different packs came. As they left, they took some omegas with them. Lagand thought you're one of the omegas taken away and so he," Ether glanced at me then looked down, "He followed after them." I felt my head becoming dizzy for all the sudden information I had heard. Omegas were taken away, even Lagand was one of them. But why? And who did it? "That's why, Luna Claire... Please answer our question. Do you love the Alpha King?" Ether once again asked. I stared back at her, unable to form words for a response. I wanted to ask them what did it have to do with the current situation. But her words even surprised me, waking up something that had been sleeping inside me all along. "The Alpha King has changed. Can you really love and accept him nevertheless?" "But we can't disagree with him," I told Ether, my heart twisting. "Then do you accept the treatment he gives to us omegas? Luna Claire, remember what he did to your family. He separated you from your loved ones. Who knows, they may also be part of why those omegas were taken away by force. Aren't you afraid something might happen to them while you're here, staying with the Alpha King, who doesn't tell you anything at all?" "Tell me, Luna," Ether added, eyes filled with emotions deeply rooted from something I failed to notice. "Loving and trusting someone who only causes you pain and misery. Is it really worth it?"

Chapter 9

As Ether stared at me with a pair of raging, desperate eyes, my heart pounded loudly at the thought of the person mentioned and I found myself glancing over the past. Ajax. He was the one who treated me fairly when everyone did the opposite. Even knowing he was an alpha and I was an omega, he never made me feel there was a line between us, that we were from different worlds, that there were no possibilities of living in peace together regardless of our races. When I reached the age where I began to understand my position and his position, I began to treat him with so much, more respect, than ever, and even tried to distance myself so as not to cross the line. "You can still call me by my name," he had replied then. The mahogany trees around us had dried leaves dancing as they fell to the ground, the wind humid and my eyes couldn't help but feel enthralled by the image of a handsome boy. From a certain point, he looked like a live painting, and I, his playmate slash servant, was a thief of this beautiful piece. "Say, Claire. Being an alpha... is it really that good?" He was thirteen and I was twelve. It was the age where we were tested by the pack's physician and confirmed our second genders, of being alphas, betas, and omegas. At that time, I couldn't speak and only stared at him. I began to think that Ajax―this person whom everyone looked up to for being the Alpha King's son, next to the throne, future leader of our pack―was innocent and pure by nature. After that, my smile was the widest and although he never returned it with his usual expressionless face, my heart was filled with so much warmth. I fell in love with Ajax more and more. As a playmate whom the Alpha Prince practically grew up together with, I gave him a casual reply, not bothering to hide my truest feelings at that time. "I think they are. My mother said alphas are strong and brave and," I stared at him, then a foolish grin made its way on my face. "Beautiful." "You think alphas are beautiful?" Ajax asked. I blushed, realizing what I just said. Shaking my head in an attempt to hide my emotions, I told him with a laugh, "I-I mean, alphas are naturally good-looking and awesome. But I... I think Ajax is the coolest among them." "Claire, do you... like alphas?" My heart pounded louder and louder. It was as if Ajax was actually asking whether I liked him or not. And so I answered with a biggest, warmest, and truest smile, "Yes." Now, more than a decade later, the very same face had shown me how he despised my race. Questions as to how and why did it come to this lingered in my mind and among these many questions, one always knocked on my heart, seemingly wanting to cling unto something that had been always there with no intention of leaving. "I will ask him." My voice sounded like a weak whisper, barely holding to a thin line of thread. "Luna!" Ether called and I could feel her becoming even angrier. "Ether," I called, "I think there are reasons why these things kept happening. Whether it is about alphas or betas or omegas―I believe Ajax would not do anything just because he wants it. There must be a reason. That's why, I... I will go and ask him about these things." I looked at Ether and Shila, hopeful as I said, "I will trust Ajax." I wanted to. I had to talk to him. I needed to hear what happened. Even if he got mad, I no longer cared. Whether those were all truths or lies, the reason why he rejected me, I want to hear it from his own mouth! "Luna is right." Both Ether and I turned to Shila, who suddenly spoke after remaining silent while Ether and I were exchanging words. There was a smile on her face as she stared at me, looking soft and amiable as ever as if she felt comforted while having me in her eyes. "Luna is someone whom the Alpha King relies on the most, therefore, it is only right Luna speaks to Alpha King first before doing anything. The Alpha King... might really have a reason." "Shila!" Ether called out, anger in her voice. "For a thousand years, it is the first time our Luna came from an omega race. I believe the Moon Goddess chose you for a reason to be our next leader. For this... I really hope you can bring a change. Not only to us omegas but also to everyone, to every race and every creature in this land. Luna Claire, I believe in you," Shila said, looking at me with the most clear, sincere eyes I have ever seen in my life. For a moment there, I felt my whole being feel the pressure of looking over this person. Believing in people... For the first time in my life, someone told me they "believed" in me. Appreciating her words, I internally began to assess the current situation and my plans to accomplish their wishes. While doing so, all lines brought me back to one person―Ajax. If there was someone who could help me achieve these things, it would be Ajax. He was the most powerful in this area, the highest figure everyone would surely listen to. Perhaps, I could talk to him about these things... Whatever the reason why he rejected me, and whatever he intended to do for our people, my race, his race, everyone―I wanted to know and understand. I didn't desire to be the Luna. I never wished to be one. But when I remembered how Ajax looked at me that time with such eyes, and the words replaying in my mind about omegas' sufferings, my heart felt as if it wanted to do something. In order to do so, power was needed. Perhaps, being a Luna wasn't bad at all. But then again, I was proven wrong right after I thought such a ridiculous thing. Because when I thought I had already become the Luna of our pack, Ajax's partner, leader of the people... Ajax came home. And on his side was a very beautiful female alpha, Selene Alcarez. And with our eyes meeting as if to stab my heart pointedly, Ajax announced to everyone that Selene was his mate, officially making Selene the Luna of our pack and beginning the ritual. "Bring her to the basement and don't let her out until it's over." I heard Ajax's orders, loud and clear as betas came in and dragged me out of the room and into the basement of the mansion. I even heard the voices of Shila and Ether as they tried to stop the men from dragging me out but I was too shocked to make even a sound. Disbelief showered me and I kept wanting to look up and see what kind of expression Ajax wore as he gave his orders, wanting to ask a thousand questions as everything happened so fast... My heart made me fail to move however as I couldn't even move a single finger. Still lost in the sudden happenings around me, the doors of the almost empty, dark room in the basement was shut tight, and my heart grasped the words of Ajax's men from outside which made me understand what kind of a big joke I had been, what miserable fate I had. ... What it actually meant to be someone of the lowest rank. What it actually meant to be an omega to the people of the pack I grew up with. "An omega can only dream of becoming a Luna. She will never be one even if she desires to. After all, she's only here to serve the Alpha King in bed. A weak and powerless omega like her... Nothing good will come out of them except their skills in bed and being a bloody sacrifice in the battlefield. That's her and the rest of her race's only use." "Truly, a person who was born as a slave will also die as a slave."
